About Julie Knowles and her paintings.

Julie grew up in the Southwestern English countryside where she soon descovered a passion and a talent for painting and sketching animals and the landscapes that surround them..

Due to her surroundings, Julie has come to paint far more Horses and Dogs that smaller pets but her talents extend to all shapes of animals including Birds, cats and a selection of wild animals.

Throughout the 80's Julie painted many animal portraits as well as hunting scenes set on the hills of Dartmoor and the Yorkshire Dales. With increasing popularity and reputation, she continued to complete commissions in the UK but in the early 90's she made her way to Ontario in Canada to paint horses for some of the countries most prestigous stables and race horse breeders.

By the late 90's Julie was back in the UK recieving commissions from all over the UK and Europe however the Canadian way of life and interest from Alberta horse breeders soon encouraged Julie back to Canada.

Soon after retuning to Canada, Julie met her Husband to be, as well as a second love, the rocky mountains, not forgetting her dog Max. This has enabled Julie to settle in this beautiful countryside and continue the painting that she loves from her studio in the Rocky mountains.

Julie continues to take commissions for portrait paintings as well as painting some outstanding scenes and wildlife from the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
